2 Custom Framing Ideas for an Abstract Painting

Selecting the right frame for a painting is extremely important. A custom frame should finish, complement, enhance and even elevate your work of art. The right frame should never distract, compete or close in your piece.

Betsy, one of our expert art consultants in our Chevy Chase, MD gallery, has selected an abstract floral piece by David Skillicorn to demonstrate how 2 different options can both work beautifully. Let’s listen in…..

Betsy’s first selection, a white, hand finished closed corner frame rests on the edge of the canvas almost becoming an extension of the background of the painting. This architectural frame brings the artwork forward from the wall with its’ angular profile. The clean, white color draws your eye to the highlights of this Skillicorn painting which is will sure to brighten any space it inhabits.

The second option is a subtle metallic champagne floater frame which favors the warm tones in the piece. With the floater frame we will opt for 3/8 of an inch black reveal (the space between the frame and the artwork) allowing the painting to “float” in the frame. The Skillicorn will be raised so that frame and canvas will be at almost the same depth. A very clean and contemporary presentation, it is sure to command attention, wherever its forever home may be.
