DAVE MALONE Biography

Dave Malone is a multimedia artist working with paint, canvas, paper, wood, stone, steel and various reclaimed materials. Dave paints, draws, assembles, and constructs in both 2-D and 3-D formats. Dave and his family, Jade Clement, and their two daughters Isla and Ruby currently reside in Salt Lake City, Utah. When they're not attending to the details of city and family life, they can usually be found on the rivers of Idaho or Montana – fishing, hiking, camping and taking in fresh mountain air.


Dave was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 28, 1964 and was raised in Hailey, Idaho. After briefly attending Boise State University from 1982 to 1984, he transferred to the University of Utah in 1985 where he studied fine arts, illustration and graphic design. In 1991, Dave co-founded the firm Huddleston Malone Design, a graphic design, branding and marketing group, where he was creative director and a managing partner until 2002. From 1996 to 1998, Dave was the President of the American Institute of Graphic Design (AIGA), Salt Lake City Chapter. During his tenure at HMD, Dave was published in Communication Arts, Step-by-Step Graphics, HOW Design, and “Graphis” Design. In addition, he received numerous industry awards including those from the Utah Advertising Federation and the AIGA. In 2002, Dave shifted his focus to fine arts, specifically painting and sculpting. He has been producing art consistently since 2002, as well as supervising ongoing branding campaigns for various corporate accounts. In 2009, Dave was featured in New American Paintings.
