DAVID ROTHERMEL

DAVID ROTHERMEL American artist David Rothermel, of David Rothermel Contemporary in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a small town located at the confluence of the north and west branches of the Susquehanna River. David first studied art at York Academy of Art, located in York, Pennsylvania. He later went on to study and graduate from the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Art. Two of his summers were spent in Maine at the much coveted Skowhegan School of Painting, studying under preeminent American masters.

Along with many student awards, scholarships, and accolades, David has remained steadfast in his professional career.

When David moved to New Mexico in 1981, he first took a job as an art director for an outdoor advertising company. His days were spent painting 10’ x 40’ billboards. His yearning for painting on a large scale was fulfilled until he fell from the scaffolds and broke both arms.

David's works are included in many private and public collections, as well as museum exhibitions. Two of his watercolors are part of the nationally-recognized permanent collection of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine.
