August 2025: Layers of Abstraction From Dugar, Barber & Segal

Abstraction has the unique power to distill experience into pure sensation—colors, forms, and textures that speak directly to our emotions. Our newest acquisitions each approach abstraction in their own distinct way, inviting viewers to step beyond representation and into a space of feeling.

Blended Hues

Shivani Dugar, Lavender Whispers, Oil on Canvas, 50X50

Gentle layers of cream, sky blue, and muted lavender blend together, creating a sense of light and openness. Dugar offers only a suggestion of place—a glimmer of light, faint horizon lines fading from view. With its serene palette and delicate transitions, the piece invites the viewer into a quiet, reflective moment.

Energetic Movement

Liz Barber, Spring Tulips, Mixed Media on Canvas, 38 X 74

Spring Tulips by Barber radiates exuberance, its organic abstraction alive with saturated fuchsia, citrus yellow, and fiery orange. Sweeping arcs and translucent layers create a sense of movement, evoking petals caught in a sudden breeze. Wherever it hangs, the piece infuses the space with playful energy, its composition brimming with vitality and spontaneity.

Textured Balance

Maura Segal, Lemon Pie, Mixed Media on Canvas, 42 X 60

Minimal in form yet abundant in texture, Maura Segal’s Lemon Pie balances luminous golden yellow and crisp white color fields, both layered with intricately cut shapes. The subtle surface patterns lend depth without disrupting the calm, resulting in a work that feels serene and quietly optimistic, like sunlight diffused through a gentle morning haze.
