Hyunmee Lee creates a meditative state for viewers in her new painting Encountered Space No.7. Layering calligraphy-inspired marks with negative space and quiet linear elements, Lee finds the perfect balance of expressive gesture and delicate control. The piece is composed with her signature minimalist color palette. Brief moments of soft yellow create small bursts of energy across the canvas.
Lee uses these forms and lines as a method of examining human nature and her own sense of self within that – the artist’s movements are evident in each stroke of paint. Once again, she has captured a moment of reflection and, in her own words, “a place to feel both emptiness and fullness.”
